Friday Evening Connections and Reflections for 10/2/20

33 Participants
More than $2,200 raised for missions scholarships

On Saturday morning, September 26, more than 30 individuals showed up to walk/run in honor of Josh Teegarden and in support of the Teegarden Memorial Scholarship for mission-focused students at Johnson University.  Matt Johnson set a blistering pace of just over 22:00 minutes while others enjoyed a more leisurely 1.5 mile stroll around the picturesque campus of Johnson University.  A good time was had by all and we appreciate everyone's participation, encouragement, and support of the "Move for Missions 5K."

If you haven't yet heard, Homecoming is moving online for 2021. We are putting together a schedule of livestream sessions, virtual alumni reunions, a video update from President Smith, and more. Keynore speaker this year will be Bo Chancey. Bo is the Senior Pastor of Manchester Christian Church in New Hampshire. He is a gifted communicator who is passionate about challenging people to fall madly in love with Jesus Christ and believes that God desperately desires all people to find the freedom of living an abundant life in Him. Bo's book, Pray for One, is a unified prayer that unleashes an exponential movement of God's love.

Former Florida Trustee, Mark Durbin, recently gained the ultimate victory in his battle with cancer. While his presence will be missed in the Kissimmee community, his legacy of love, encouragement, and courage will not soon be forgotten. You can live-stream his Celebration of Life service on Saturday, Oct 3rd, at 10am from http://kissimmeechristianchurch.org/media. His obituary is at https://www.legacy.com/.../osceolanewsga.../obituary.aspx

Mark is survived by his wife, Connie Click (Masters, JUTN '79), sons Brian Durbin (JUTN '05), Will (Diana) Click, Jake (Katie) Click; and daughter, Jessica Durbin; and seven grandchildren.

On September 23, 2020, Joe Mueller (JUTN '07) was honored by the publication of a journal article, "Planting gardens: Mesopotamian influence on a Hebrew trope in Jeremiah 29." Read it at https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0309089219882446.

Tanner Rutherford (JUTN '18) married Haley Rutherford on September 26, 2020, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Tanner is a freelance writer and music instructor at the School of Rock Knoxville and his wife works as a Creative Designer at Altar'd State.

Friday Evening Connections and Reflections

Connections and Reflections for July 17, 2020 Spent a few minutes talking with John Pryor (JUTN ‘70), former missionary with Pioneer Bible Translators to Papua New Guinea.  He is looking for a part-time ministry opportunity in a Restoration Movement church somewhere in or near Destin, Florida.  If you know of anything, please let me know. John spent some time as a faculty/staff member on the Tennessee campus in the late 1990’s.  John and I played intramural floor hockey together and I always admired his ability to out-run and out-work students who were almost 30 years his junior.    I learned this week that the family of Tim (JUTN ’81) and Lisa (Seymour, JUTN ’84) Jones have experienced some challenges with the COVID situation.  Please keep them in your prayers. This week, James Burrell (JUFL, ’80) of Montrose, Colorado, became the FIRST Florida alumni to join the Johnson University Alumni Association!  Welcome to the Association, Jim! Association bene...
